Rookie Moms, Unite!
March 08, 2009
Here's a Savvy splendid truth* of parenting, no matter how many kids you have and no matter how old they are: we are all rookies, and we are all experts.
And if you are an official rookie (i.e. with a baby under the age of 1), you are still an expert in so many ways, but you might especially enjoy the wit, wisdom, insight and inspiration from The Rookie Mom's Handbook.
The most essential activities, we think, are the ones that bring rookie moms together with other rookie moms. You need each other like your babies need you. As Heather Gibbs Flett and Whitney Moss tell us in The Rookie Mom's Handbook, "We cannot emphasize enough the importance of hanging out with other women who are doing what you are doing." Rookie moms, unite!
Consider these ideas from the book:
- Activity #24 Join a new mom's group.
- Activity #196 Help a rookie mom.
- Activity #206 Turn on your blender and get salty.
- Activity #213 Hit on another baby owner.
What do you do to bring your friends and fellow parents together and save everyone's sanity?
*With gratitude to Gretchen Rubin of the Happiness Project for the turn of phrase and for reminding us to reflect on such things.
