A Playlist of Sunny Songs for Cloudy Days

It's cloudy out there. It's cold. It's rainy, snowy, windy -- in short, the weather is foul. And we're cooped up with a bunch of overactive preschoolers, just wishing more than anything to feel the sun.

We'll have to wait a while for sunny days (unless we live in Hawaii or some other unfairly blessed place), but we can still sun-worship from home with these sun-kissed songs that kiddos and parents alike can adore. Do a little sun-dance for us!


"You Are My Sunshine" by Elizabeth Mitchell of the angelic voice. This nursery favorite is the title song of Mitchell's simply gorgeous 2002 album for children.

"East of the Sun (and West of the Moon)" -- Here is a sunny, sentimental classic to make us swoon from The Essential Frank Sinatra with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra.

"Why Does the Sun Shine? (The Sun Is a Mass of Incandescent Gas)" -- Silliness mixes with serious science in this tune by They Might Be Giants.

"Tomorrow" from the Annie soundtrack -- That's when the sun will come out, remember?

"Here Comes the Sun" from the Beatles' Abby Road -- If any song can pull you out of mid-winter blues, this is it.

"I Can See Clearly Now" from We Are All One: The Best of Jimmie Cliff -- Don't forget that pretty soon "It's gonna be a bright (bright), bright (bright) Sun-Shiny day!"
