Director's Comments

Question to director: Do you have any additional thoughts on what parents should consider when looking at your school? Is there any advice that you would like to provide to prospective parents?
We have a warm, nurturing atmosphere here at St. Vincent's Episcopal Preschool. Many of our children's parents attended here also. We are always willing to extend our help to anyone in need. Our children are our top concern! Come and visit us anytime! Love, Ms. Renee Dillon & Staff

Parents' Comments
Parent #1
The staff is professional, but treats you like family. The Director is always available to discuss any concerns.

Parent #2
They have a great director who truly seems to love her job. Other staff seem to be happy most days. The facility is older and could use some updating, cleanliness seems to be an issue sometimes. With that said, my child is very happy going there and I feel he/she is in safe hands and with people that really care about kids.

Parent #3
This is a small school with an amazing staff. My daughter has been there a year and a half now and we will be so sad to leave. The teachers there are WONDERFUL. They truly care about the kids and will help you out in any way they can.

School Philosophy & Day in the Life

School Philosophy and Mission

We believe...
1. Each child is unique. We respect, realize, and appreciate the difference.
2. By attending to and complimenting the good behavior and by redirecting the negative, we can increase the positive.
3.We provide an environment that will give each child love, security, and a means of learning exploration on a level of success for him/her.
4. Learning should be made an enjoyable and rewarding experience and should not place pressure on the child.

Typical Day-In-The-Life At This School

All classes adhere to a schedule of a quiet activity then a loud one. We have found that by allowing the children movement after a quiet learning experience keeps them on task and helps keep behavior positive. We provide morning and afternoon outside play. We have Chapel from 9-9:30 am M-Th. We encourage sensory activities along with our themed curriculum. Art is done daily. We also teach spanish and sign language. Each child is sent home with a daily report of who they played with, and what they learned.

Director's and Parents' Comments

Director's Comments

Parents are encouraged to never sneak away. If the child has seperation anxiety, we develop a routine of using the restroom, or reading a book before a hug and a kiss goodbye. Parents smile and if they need to they are welcome to sit with me in my office to cry, talk, or just relax. The child will calm down and the parent becomes aware first hand.

Parents' Comments

Parent #1
I was encouraged not to sneak away on the first day by the Director. I was encouraged to say goodbuy, give a hug & say " I will be back at the end of the day." It was hard, but it helped my daughter trust me & the staff.

Discipline, Health and Safety

Discipline

OVERALL RATING (3.8) Three and Half Stars
Parents' Opinions
Parents at this school, on average, believe that conflicts between children: are handled extraordinarily well in a way that not only gives me confidence in the safety of my child but also reassures me that my child (and his/her peers) are learning the early skills needed to socialize effectively with one another

Overview

Director's Description of Approach Toward Discipline

Appropriate behavior is encouraged through positive reinforcement and praise, while inappropriate behavior is discouraged through redirection. We prohibit children from being subjected to discipline which is severe, humiliating, frightening, or associated with food, rest, or toileting.

Director's Response to a Sample Discipline Scenario

Description of how teachers handle the following scenario: Child A and Child B are good friends and usually play together. One day, Child A decides to play with Child C and tells Child B, 'I don't want to play with you today. I'm playing with Child C instead.'

The child being left out would be redirected to another area of interest and encouraged to interact with friends there. The other two children would be privately spoken to about feelings. Teachers would model friendly behavior.

Parents' Notes on Discipline, Health and Safety

Parents' Comments

Parent #1
There is not a day that I go to get my child that I don't smell pine-sol very stongly. Every Friday the classrooms and toys are bleached down. The playground is lovely. Shaded by a HUGE oak tree.

Parent #2
I feel the bathroom area, floors, and base boards are not usually cleaned very well. I think the playground is really nice and shaded for the kids which is great! The building in general is in good shape.

Parent #3
The school is older, but well maintained by the Director & Staff.

Parent #4
When Ms. Renee was there the school ran smoothly!
