School Philosophy & Day in the Life
School Philosophy and Mission
The Adventure Zone philosophy is to respect and nurture each student in a positive, fun, safe, and educational atmosphere.
Typical Day-In-The-Life At This School
Before preschool begins, children are encouraged to participate in group activities such as circle time, singing, or story time. Our preschool curriculum emphasizes early learning of numbers, letters, shapes, colors, manners, respect, and pride in a hands-on manner. During the school year, students are in a structured class with students near their own age for approximately 2 - 2.5 hours prior to lunch. The afternoon consists of play time, nap time, art, music, reading, and free time.
Quality of Teaching
Director's Comments on Individualized Teaching
Individualized Teaching
Description of how teachers work with children who are
"behind," "excelling" or "different" from the majority of students
The Adventure Zone teachers and staff make every attempt to discourage any stereotyping or labeling of children who might be "a little different" from the other students. Teachers work with children who are "different" based on the appropriate needs of each students; for example, if a teacher notices a child struggling with writing letters, the teacher might spend some time pointing out positive aspects of each child's letter and / or offer additional one-on-one with each child in a manner that would not single out the "different" student.

Director's Comments
Parents are encouraged to drop by the center at any time to participate and / or observe their child's daily activities or to visit with his / her teacher. Each child has a folder with his or her name where projects, activities, and lessons are placed for the parent to take home. Our staff emphasizes positive aspects when discussing issues with parents and will address any concerns / questions in an appropriate, timely manner. Should there be an issue of serious concern, an incident report will be written by the staff person who handled the situation and the report will be discussed / reviewed with the parents of the children involved. In the entry way, literature is offered on topics from immunizations to child care assistance programs. The director and owner have vast knowledge of community, government, developmental, educational, and social resources and will offer such information to parents when appropriate or when asked to do so. Adventure Zone will have approximately two open houses each year in addition to an annual Christmas program.
