Director's Comments

Young children learn best through play and hands on activities. Our teachers provide a balance of teacher directed and child led instruction and activites. Small and large group activities are offered as are quiet and active activities.

Quality of Teaching

Director's Comments on Individualized Teaching

Individualized Teaching

Description of how teachers work with children who are
"behind," "excelling" or "different" from the majority of students

Teachers work with individual chidlren as needed. As children rotate through the centers, the teacher changes the level of the work to meet the need of the small groups.

Home School Connection

Director's Comments

A monthly newsletter is sent home highlighting school activities. The teachers also send home weekly and monthly calendars and newsletters. Emails are sent as needed.

Separation

Beginning of the year separation is handled through:
- Pre-entry meetings with parents at school
- Extra staff dedicated to handle separation

Director's and Parents' Comments

Director's Comments

We encourage our parents to let their children know that school is a fun and safe place to be. Often a positive attitude on the parents behalf is all that is needed.

We do not feel that children should spend a lot of time crying at school. We work with parents and develop a plan on how soon parents should be called.

In time the children do adjust to school and so does mom!

Discipline, Health and Safety

Overview

Director's Description of Approach Toward Discipline

Redirection works best with preschoolers. It is also important and children learn to use their words to tell their friends and teachers how they feel. Role playing works well as well.

Director's Response to a Sample Discipline Scenario

Description of how teachers handle the following scenario: Child A and Child B are good friends and usually play together. One day, Child A decides to play with Child C and tells Child B, 'I don't want to play with you today. I'm playing with Child C instead.'

It is fun to have lots of friends and all friendships should be encouraged. It is important that children be able to choose who they want to play with on any given day - however, we need to be respectful of our friends feelings. The teacher would help the children to talk to each other and help them understand how they are feeling.

Food Allergies

- We ask parents to provide child-safe snacks for their allergic child

- Each allergy and each child is unique so we handle each situation in an individual way.

Medications

- Each case is treated individually!

The class varies according to the age of the children. Each classroom has a teacher and an assistant.
