School Philosophy and Mission

"To provide an environment that encourages children to learn through exploration. The program we pursue is geared toward helping children develop habits of observation, questioning and listening.
At our center you will see. . .
. . . No lines to stand in, only activities to enjoy
. . . No patterns to follow, only materials with which to create.
. . . No complicated, abstract meanings the child cannot comprehend, only ideas and things to talk about, relate to, compare with, match, fit into, try out, invent, discover, enjoy.
Yet at the same time the child is being continuously challenged by specific learning goals we have set for them:
. . . In order to read and perform other academic tasks the child must first gather meaning from the world and develop an awareness of concepts.
. . . In order to gather meaning from the world the child must have many satisfying sensory and sensory motor experiences—the child must touch, feel, smell, hear, see. Perceptual development follows. This is how a child interprets their sensory experiences, which is a prerequisite for developing their mind.

Typical Day-In-The-Life At This School

"A Typical Day in the Infant Room:
6:00-9:00 Infants arrive and are greeted by the staff. Parents relay important information to the caregiver, such as medicine needed, feeding, sleeping, pick-up, etc. This information will be recorded on their Daily Log Sheet. Breakfast is served to the babies.
9:00-10:30 Infants and caregivers enjoy time together playing simple games, singing, stretching and cuddling. They are rocked and fed before morning nap, as needed. Older infants enjoy a circle time together, which may include story time, puppet play, singing and fingerplays. Activity areas are also available for the older infants to explore such as sensory areas, block building, dramatic play and art exploration.
10:30–11:30 Children spend small group time with their primary caregiver and the other children in their group. They enjoy time together outdoors taking a walk, playing games or doing a special activity.
11:30-12:30 The infants are fed. Diapering is done as needed.*
12:30-2:30 During nap time teachers play soft music while the children sleep. Infants who are awake during this time enjoy individual activity time with their caregiver.
2:30-3:00 Infants are diapered individually as they awaken. Children eat snack and get ready to go outdoors if weather permits.
3:00-3:30 Outdoor play time for the babies. Activities may include swinging, sand play, playing with balls, bubble play and small riding toys.
3:30-5:30 Children enjoy a variety of activities such as blocks, nesting toys and dramatic play.
5:30-6:00 Children engage in quiet activities until parents arrive. Caregivers share information of the infant’s day with the parents.
*Feeding and diapering is done throughout the day as needed.
A Typical Day in the Toddler Room:
6:00-9:00 Children arrive and are greeted by the staff. Parents relay important information to the caregiver, such as medicine needed, feeding, sleeping, pick-up, etc. This information will be recorded on their Daily Log Sheet. Breakfast is served to the toddlers. Diapering and toileting occur as needed.
9:00-9:20 Toddlers have circle time which may include storytelling, fingerplays, puppets and singing. Toddlers interact in a large group.
9:20–10:30 Children may choose activities from interest centers such as dramatic play, sensory play, block building and art exploration. Children help clean up prior to snack being served as a group.
10:30–11:30 Children spend small group time with their primary caregiver and the other children in their small group. They enjoy time together outdoors taking a walk, playing games or doing a special activity.
11:30-12:30 Children are fed. Lunch is provided by the parents. After lunch children enjoy quiet storytelling time. Diapering and toileting is done as needed.*
12:30-2:30 During nap time teachers play soft music while the children sleep. Toddlers who are awake during this time enjoy looking at books on their cots.
2:30-3:00 Diapering and toileting occur as the toddlers awaken. Toddlers eat snack and get ready to go outdoors if weather permits.
3:00-3:30 Outdoor play. Activities may include swinging, sliding, climbing, sand play, playing with balls, bubble play and small riding toys, etc. A large motor activity is planned if the children remain inside.
3:30-5:30 Children enjoy a variety of activities such as blocks, dramatic play, sensory play, stories, fingerplays and songs.
5:30-6:00 Children engage in quiet activities until parents arrive. Caregivers share information about the toddler’s day with the parents.
*Diapering is done throughout the day as needed.

9:20–10:30 Children may choose activities from a variety of thematic learning centers planned for the day. Developmental centers may include math, science and language activities. Children help clean up prior to snack being served as a family style setting.
10:30–11:30 Children spend time enjoying creative activities in the classroom. Dramatic play, sensory activities, blocks and creative art materials are available for the children to explore. They enjoy time together outdoors taking a walk, playing games, playing on the outdoor equipment or doing a special activity.
11:30-12:30 Children enjoy a family style lunch setting. Lunch is provided by the parents. After lunch children enjoy quiet storytelling time.
12:30-2:30 During nap time teachers play soft music while the children sleep. Children who are awake during this time may read books on their cots.
2:30-3:00 Upon awakening children are served family style snack.
3:00-5:30 Children enjoy indoor and outdoor free play. A group activity may also be planned for the children to participate in.
5:30-6:00 Children engage in quiet activities until parents arrive. Caregivers share information of the children’s day with the parents
A Typical Day in the Preschool Room offering the Head Start Program:
8:30-9:00 Family style breakfast provided by the Head Start Program is served to the children. Personnel hygiene follows after breakfast.
9:00-9:20 Children have circle time which may include storytelling, fingerplays, the calendar, weather, counting, letter and name recognition along with a review of the morning learning centers.
9:20–10:30 Children may choose activities from a variety of thematic learning centers planned for the day. Developmental centers may include math, science and language activities. Children help clean up prior to snack being served as a family style setting.
10:30–11:30 Children spend time enjoying creative activities in the classroom. Dramatic play, sensory activities, blocks and creative art materials are available for the children to explore. Children who attend prior to 8:30 a.m. and after 12:00 a.m. will follow the same schedule as listed in preschool program. Parents will be billed based on our current fee schedule for the additional time attended beyond the Head Start program period.
