School Philosophy & Day in the Life

School Philosophy and Mission

"Our Child Development Center acknowledges that parents are the child's primary teachers and therefore we strive to maintain a strong, positive home-school relationship with ongoing, open communication. The child joins us to build upon their home experiences within the new environment of school. We recognize that each child is his/her own special and unique person. The child's individual needs, feelings, language and culture are acknowledged and respected.
Teachers and children must work together to create a meaningful learning environment. We value the education of the whole child. We provide developmentally appropriate, open activities to stimulate the child's interests and problem solving skills in the areas of social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and creative growth. We also encourage the child to initiate and follow through on their own ideas, to make choices and to make decisions. We trust the child's abilities to accept responsibility and to succeed.
We view the child as an eager and active learner. Each child has his/her own unique temperament, personality, style of learning and pace of learning. Common to all children, however, is the need for hands-on, concrete experiences to assimilate new concepts and information from the world around them. By offering an open, accepting environment, each child is free to explore activities through different styles and develop the learning style they are most comfortable with. We also strongly believe that central to this growth is the development of mutual respect and honest communication.
