School Philosophy & Day in the Life

School Philosophy and Mission

"The Children's Center is structured not as an institution but rather as an extension of the family—a support system existing in a home-oriented environment to meet a child's emotional, physical, intellectual, and social growth needs. We consider ourselves a family support service, dedicated to nurturing healthy people.
The people of our Center are those children and adults who participate in our program. Each person is a learner, each a teacher, each a valued and unique individual. Our environment is designed to support the search of each person as he/she set the design of his/her own becoming.
The Children's Center is a learning place, a feeling place, a sharing place, and a place of wonder. Adults and children interacting in our environment need to feel they are competent. They need to know they can master a variety of tasks. People with high self-esteem know these things about themselves.
To foster acceptance, nurturance and trust, our program is committed to an environment that supports ethnic, economic, and social similarities and differences. The people in our Center need to recognize, respect and support the rights of others. Each person in our program has the right to become who he/she is at his/her own individual pace of development.
The Associated Students Children's Center was established in 1971 to provide child care and development services for children of Sac State students, ages 6 months through second grade. The purpose of this Enrollment Policy is to ensure that the original intent of the Center is realized for as many Sac State families as possible.
The Associated Students shall not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, creed, sex, disability, age, citizenship, national origin, sexual orientation, or martial status. The Children's Center also refrains from involvement in any religious instruction and/or worship.
