Parents' Comments

San Pedro Co-op's strength is the same as its weakness: Parent participation. You get out of the school what you put in, literally. The adult to student ratio is very high, you get to know other parents and their kids and you spend a lot of time helping out with school activities, maintenance and fundraising.
School Philosophy & Day in the Life
School Philosophy and Mission
"The philosophy of the SPCNS has developed out of years of experience. It is an expression of what our parents have decided is necessary and desirable for our children. We believe that the primary focus of our school should be the healthy and happy development of the complete child, i.e., social, emotional, physical and intellectual.
SPCNS's child-centered philosophy allows children to learn through play by exploring their environment at their own developmental pace. Our non-profit school is founded on the principle that the best education will result from an active partnership between parent, teachers and children.
SPCNS works to provide a caring, trusting, and noncompetitive environment in which our children can flourish as individuals and friends.

The Co-op is a play-based preschool, but the teachers have circle times during which the students are read to, learn routines, letters and math concepts. they also have daily projects in the art room -- cutting, gluing, painting, cooking, etc. At the end of the 4 year-old class the parents are given a personalized evaluation of the student's kindergarten readiness which includes both fine and gross motor skills, letter and number recognition and teacher assessment.
Drop-in Policy
- During school parents are welcomed as the school has an open door policy

Parents' Notes on Discipline, Health and Safety
Parents' Comments

The San Pedro Co-op provides your child with a safe and clean environment to learn through play. My daughter is socially well prepared for kindergarden as she can sit still for 20-30minutes, plays well by herself and with others, raises her hand when wanting to speak and respects others all of this she has learned at this school. This school has provided her with a wonderful outlook on school in general and is really looking forward to kindergarden.
Parent #2
Peer conflict resolution is encouraged, children learn to care for each other and be safe. Parents provide snacks and clean up.
