Parents' Comments
Parent #1
A great school that focuses on the individual child while maintaining a great group dynamic. Environmental studies are a nice part of the program.

Parent #2
This has been great for both my kids, the fact that it goes to 9th grade is very nice. The small class size made a huge difference to my children, they have had close relationship with the teachers. One of the biggest strengths is the location in the Santa Monica mountains, it's beautiful and peaceful, a place I would have loved to have gone to school as a kid.

Parent #3
I have a son that started in Pre-K4 at Calmont. From his first day he has loved it-he has a solid foundation in academics but most importantly he has been supported as a human being-his confidence is strong and he loves going to school. They also have a strong environmental science program which we love.

School Philosophy & Day in the Life

School Philosophy and Mission

"Calmont School offers an enriched education. The teachers engage the students by helping them to develop their own unique strengths and set personal goals to explore other areas of potential interest. The supportive and professional staff provides the children with a safe environment in which they can grow intellectually, emotionally, socially, physically, and creatively.

We seek to establish a firm foundation in the core curriculum of reading, language arts, mathematics, social studies, and science. Well-developed oral, listening, and written communication skills are integrated into all subject areas. The curriculum is enriched through age-appropriate exposure to art, Spanish, computer, physical education, library, music, drama, and environmental studies. We expect students to emerge from our school, computer-literate, ready to adapt to the vast resources of society's ever-changing technologies. We also take full advantage of our special canyon setting and incorporate nature, ecology and the environment into our studies.

Calmont cultivates a close, caring, personable campus where children feel secure, appreciated and successful. The learning environment is one where challenge, support and risk-taking converge. In the early years, that includes creating a series of controlled risks by which students explore and test their ideas and abilities. Older students are encouraged to meet the same challenges in more open-ended arenas.

Parents' Comments

Parent #1
The approach to curriculum is very balanced.

Parent #2
The answers were difficult for these questions. The teacher or specialists work with the kids in these areas, but there is also a lot of child interaction and play as well.

Parents' Opinions
Parents at this school, on average, believe that conflicts between children: are handled extraordinarily well in a way that not only gives me confidence in the safety of my child but also reassures me that my child (and his/her peers) are learning the early skills needed to socialize effectively with one another

Parents' Comments

Parent #1
The school is located in the Santa Monica Mountains, it does not have your typical black top play area, it has a beautiful campus with trees and grassy play areas. The kids go on hike and explore, and swim when the weather is nice, it like summer camp all year round.

Parent #2
The school is in it's first year at a new location. It is continuing to improve and make adjustments to this new locale.
