Each case is evaluated individually and enrollment is considered based upon the specific circumstances of the child and the expecations of the parents. We do not have specifially credentialed special-ed teachers on our staff, however, if it is determined that we can provide some benefit to the child and still meet the high expectations of the rest of our families, we will consider every child for enrollment in our school. |

Director's Comments
Question to director: Do you have any additional thoughts on what parents should consider when looking at your school? Is there any advice that you would like to provide to prospective parents?
We are so proud of our Day School. Our children thrive and learn every day. They make friends, build confidence and leave our school prepared and excited about elementary school.
Our teachers are dedicated professionals committed to providing a safe and stimulating environment for their students. They are well educated and seek continuing education opportunities that keep them up to date and prepared.
Regarding the amount of religious programming within our school, we are a Christian preschool and therefore do promote and teach Christian values, we do not have a formal religious component to our program.
Aldersgate Day School has been teaching children for almost 50 years. We invite you to come take a look around and ask any questions you may have regarding our programs, teachers, and policies.
Parents' Comments
Parent #1
There is almost no communication between the teachers and parents or the administration and parents. We've been told that we would be notified if there were any problems with our child. They share very little about what our child does while at school. They offer one parent/teacher conference in February or March. While our child loves going to school, we aren't sure we will choose this school again next year.
Parent #2
This school is amazing! I have sent all four of my children to Aldersgate. The director and staff are the epitome of professional and nurturing. Since the fall of 2001, I have had at least two children at Aldersgate, and in that time I have seen very little turnover in the staff. Their dedication and chameraderie coupled with their love of the children never ceases to amaze me. This is a very happy school which definitely prepares children for the acaemic rigors of elementary school. I cannot say enough positive things about Aldersgate.
Parent #3
The teachers are fabulous! We love this school. Having my children in a loving, safe atmosphere is important - and Aldersgate provides that. They also provide a "lunch bunch" option for days I know I might be running late for pick up.
Parent #4
School is nonresponsive to parent concerns.
Children with separation anxiety are ignored until they decide to "join the program." Children are left crying.
Parents are not allowed to set foot in the classroom. Parents are not allowed to speak with teachers at drop off or pick up, so there is very little communication about your child's day.
School Philosophy & Day in the Life
School Philosophy and Mission
Aldersgate Day School program provides a happy and rewarding preschool experience while affirming each child's self worth, developing his or her unique skills and talents and aiding in the child's social development.
Our goal for each child is that he or she grows in self-awareness, finds and accepts love and care from other trusted adults in their world, matures in awareness of God and achieves a sense of belonging in their school environment.
Typical Day-In-The-Life At This School
Each day all of our classes, regardless of age level, enjoy a gathering time, circle activities, small group "instruction", snack time, indoor and/or outdoor play time and center time. Obviously these activities are designed to meet the specific age level of the children.

Director's Comments on Individualized Teaching
Individualized Teaching
Description of how teachers work with children who are
"behind," "excelling" or "different" from the majority of students
At Aldersgate, we strive to meet every child "where they are" and challenge them to reach their full potential. Whether a child is struggling in one area or excelling in another, our teachers work to get him/her ready to enter the next phase of development and education.
Parents' Comments
Parent #1
The music teacher is awesome! And the other teachers are so kind and caring. I look forward to meeting more of them.
Parent #2
Over the years, my children have had not less than 15 teachers, and I can honestly say that each has been great. The faculty at Aldersgate is amazing. Not only are they great at what they do, they have a great rapport with the parents. If there are interpersonal issues with the children, the teachers are more than on top of it. They keep parents up to date with what goes on every day at drop off and pick up. They are always available to discuss specific concerns whether it be before or after school, on the phone or through e-mail. I have always felt heard and informed by the faculty and staff at Aldersgate.

Director's Comments
The Day School offers an Open House the spring prior to each child's first year of school. In addition, a parent Orientation Night is held prior to the beginning of school in September. During both these events, school policies are discussed in detail and parents meet with teachers to discuss individual classroom and age level goals and objectives. During these sessions, separation is addressed and strategies discussed.
Daily, parents drop off and pick up children at their classrooms. While this is not a time to discuss specific concernes in detail, it is a good time to set up conferences with teachers if needed. Our teachers are ready and willing to meet with parents before or after school to discuss any concerns they may.
In addition, the school dedicates two full days in February for individual Parent-Teacher conferences to discuss children's progress, goals, and development.

Director's and Parents' Comments
Director's Comments
In our vast combined experience integrating children into the preschool environment, we have found that children separate best by: first, having visited the school a couple of times, playing on the playground, etc. and familiarizing themselves with the building; and second, during the first few days of school, parents should give a quick kiss so-long, reassure the child they will be back and let the teachers take over comforting the child. It is our belief that children need to learn from the very beginning to trust the adults in the classroom and learn to feel safe and secure in their care. Our school does have extra staff on hand and some of the classes of younger children have an abbreviated schedule during these first weeks; however, it is our goal to make each child feel welcome and safe as quickly as possible. One of the primary goals of our school is to help children learn to trust other adults in their world, and we begin this process on the first day of school.
Yes, sometimes children are upset as their parents are leaving. Yes, some children do not initally want the teachers to pick them up and comfort them; in these situations, the teacher stays close by and talks to the child, reassuring him/her that he/she is safe and that "mommy or daddy will be back soon". The teacher will then attempt to engage the child in play and interacting with the other children until he feels better.
We have experienced great success with these methods and most of our children acclimate within a day or so. In rare cases, in conjuction with parents, it is determined that the child is simply not ready for school yet and should wait a little while. We strive to make each child's preschool experience a positive one and never want a child to associate negative feelings for school.
Parents' Comments
Parent #1
The school and the church are so welcoming and they encourage us to use the playground and to attend church children's functions throughout the year. That really has built a strong sense of community for us pre-school parents.
Parent #2
Aldersgate sends monthly newsletters filled with information and suggestions of how parents can reinforce skills being developed during school. These newsletters contain reminders of things going on at Aldersgate as well as suggestions for fun activities families can do together in the community and at home.

Overview
Director's Description of Approach Toward Discipline
The Day School's approach to discipline is one of simple reiteration of rules and redirection. In most cases, children simply need to be reminded of the rules at school and then redirected into another activity. We experience very few indicidents that can not be corrected using this methodolgy.
Director's Response to a Sample Discipline Scenario
Description of how teachers handle the following scenario: Child A and Child B are good friends and usually play together. One day, Child A decides to play with Child C and tells Child B, 'I don't want to play with you today. I'm playing with Child C instead.'
Part of the preschool experience is to learn to play with many different children and to adapt to different situations. Teachers should not always react or interfere with normal, natural preschool situations; rather our teachers attempt to equip each student with the language tools to deal with events that are inevitable in preschool, such as the example provided, and then guide students when necessary to manage and problem solve on their own.
Parents' Notes on Discipline, Health and Safety
Parents' Comments
Parent #1
I can't answer most of these questions b/c the school provides very little information to parents.
Parent #2
The facility is very new as is the furniture and many of the toys. They rotate outside play equipment and throw away worn out toys.
Parent #3
The building itself is three and a half years old when the day school got occupancy, all of the furniture and equipment was replaced. As to discipline and health and safety, I have never once has pause to think that Aldersgate's procedures and policies were anything less than examplary. All procedures and guidelines are clearly stated in the school handbook, and the staff is more than happy to discuss individual issues anytime.

Advice from Parents to Prospective Parents on Admissions
Parent #1
The best way to be guaranteed admission is to be a member of the church in which the preschool operates.
