Director's Comments
Question to director: Do you have any additional thoughts on what parents should consider when looking at your school? Is there any advice that you would like to provide to prospective parents?
We also serve toddlers starting at 18 months.
Parents' Comments
Parent #1
Our second child is in her last year of the program and will be very ready for Kindergarten. Our first child came from the program with a very balanced background, which gave him the tools necessary for the expectations of first and now second grade. The teaching staff has been very stable during the time our children have attended, making for a secure and reliable environment for the children.
Parent #2
This preschool makes children school ready!
Parent #3
I found this school to be very cold and sterile. They did not handle discipline or socialization in an appropriate way at all.
Parent #4
We especially like the low student/teacher ratio and the Christ-centered program offered by the school. Weekly chapel time complements the whole educational program. In addition, the ability with which the school is able to accomodate schedules for different needs - full-time or part-time, one day a week to five days a week - all options are available and the program staff work diligently to help facilitate each family's needs. We are very pleased with the Director and her management of the overall preschool and look forward to our second child attending this coming summer.
Parent #5
Strenghs - teachers are very loving and the kids all seem to love the class; hosted a pizza lunch the first month of school so parents could meet each other and see students together. Weaknesses - don't hold parent/teacher conferences for the Moms Day Out program; no holiday music show.
Parent #6
The strengths are that they have flexible hours which are great for part time working parents or full time working parents.
School Philosophy & Day in the Life
School Philosophy and Mission
Incarnation Lutheran Preschool is a Christian Education Ministry of the Lutheran Church of the Incarnation that provides a nurturing, Christ-centered program. The staff of the program is dedicated toward providing a developmentally appropriate program where children can grow physically, emotionally, socially, intellectually and spiritually. The program provides an enriched curriculum that includes creative care experiences, children's literature, music and movement, dramatic play and the development of fine and gross motor skills. Focus is placed on positive social experiences and self sufficiency to prepare children for school readiness. Parents and staff working together is the key to a positive experience in the program. Parents are always welcome in the preschool.

Director's Comments on Individualized Teaching
Individualized Teaching
Description of how teachers work with children who are
"behind," "excelling" or "different" from the majority of students
With our low ratios, teachers spend plenty of small group time, as well as, one-to-one time with children. This allows children to develop at their own rate while providing challenges for children who excell, as well as, providing needs for children who take more time. We pride ourselves in utilizing new approaches to early reading and journal writing. With our dedicated staff, your child will learn skills needed for future school success.
Parents' Comments
Parent #1
In general this is very much a 'day-care' atmosphere. It is nice because they are flexible in the days of the week and length of the day.
Parent #2
Answered questions specifically as relates to teacher for this school year 2006-07, Have been very pleased with all teachers our child has had since enrolling in the school in Aug. 2004.
Parent #3
Of all the teachers, only the older teacher seemed happy to be teaching. The other teachers did not engage with the children. The school was affectionless. On more than one occassion, a child was put in the corner of the playyard for the entire outside time of 45minutes.
Parent #4
The teaching staff is very stable as most teachers have been with the school for 5 years or more. Teachers are encouraged to continue their education and to expand their knowledge.

Director's Comments
Each year our school has back-to-school night, some events partnered with the church and activities involving the community, such as street fairs. We also conduct observations and assessments on all children twice a year. We encourage parent involvement and volunteering in the classsroom if the parent desires, but is not a requirement. Other forms of communication are; personal notes, newletters, white boards and our Website.

Director's and Parents' Comments
Director's Comments
We offer "visiting times" with new enrollees which allows students to visit with the parent before their actual start date. We request at least two visits so a child can be involved at an indoor time and later during outdoor activity. This helps the child bond with the teacher, make friends and become familiar with the environment prior to starting school. Loving teachers have plenty of experience helping your child acclimate to thier new school and supporting you and your child into this new transition.
Parents' Comments
Parent #1
This pre-school offers any combination of days for 2-5 year old children. They do seperate by age, but they are flexible in the days/times the children can attend.
Parent #2
This is a mom's day out program for 2 year olds that is once a week for 3 hours. It is play-based and it is not nearly as formal as a preschool for 3 year olds. I don't believe the parents have high expectations for learning goals in this program. It is bascially to promote socialization amongst the kids and give the moms a break during the week.
Parent #3
Since the school has an open door policy, I am able to discuss my child's progress at any and all time with the teachers, so having a 'formal' sit-down, parent teacher conference is not necessary. I prefer the flowing communication as to a set once or twice a year meeting.
Parent #4
The teachers did not welcome my child to school in the morning, or give him an activity to help him integrate into the classroom. They did not say goodbye when he left in the afternoon, the teachers were too busy sitting and talking.

Overview
Director's Description of Approach Toward Discipline
Our goal is to encourage the children to become creative, independent, responsible and socially mature beings. With our low ratios we strive for a very preventative approach to problems. We use the environment, logical rules, curriculum, redirection and positive reminders to encourage pro-social behavior. Limiting a child's choices or renewal time(time-out) is rarely used, but may be required depending on the circumstance. We support our students in resolving their own conflicts to prepare them for later life challenges.

Comments
When touring schools we recommend checking on ratios as to how many teachers to students, and also how many students total per day, per classroom. Our center tries to accomodate working parents by providing half day and full day care, with flexible scheduling. We also remain open on many school district days off to provide care for working parents. Our preschool also accepts toddlers!

Advice from Parents to Prospective Parents on Admissions
Parent #1
NO, very easy to enroll.
Parent #2
Arrived extra early on day of registration, which is handled first come, first served.
Parent #3
Waited in line early in the morning.
Parent #4
Advice to other parents, call ahead and set up a meeting with the director. If a class is full, be sure to place your child's name on the waiting list. The director is diligent about using the waiting list to fill spots as they become available. In addition, if you have an infant and are interested in the 18 month old program, call ahead as early as possible to get on the list as these spots do fill up very quickly.
