Director's Comments

Question to director: Do you have any additional thoughts on what parents should consider when looking at your school? Is there any advice that you would like to provide to prospective parents?
Our curriculum meets TEA standards for preschool education and our students are prepared for kindergarten upon completion of our pre-k program.

School Philosophy & Day in the Life

School Philosophy and Mission

We strive to make our school a place where your child can learn, play, feel secure and happy, and get a head start on their educational journey. Our classes are small with a staff that is loving and fully qualified to
help your child develop a love for learning. We have a convenient west-side location and offer
early drop-off @ 7:45 at no extra charge.

Typical Day-In-The-Life At This School

Twice a week we have music with a pianist and our pre-k class has music & movement and Junior American Citizen club once a week.
We offer developmentally apppropriate learning activities in a center-based environment each day. Outside play is scheduled each day--weather permitting. Holiday parties and two family-centered programs are held each year.

Although our day includes play and free/choice center-based activities, our curriculum meets the standards set for pre-k education set by TEA. Many literacy and math activities are teacher-led learning games.

Quality of Teaching

Director's Comments on Individualized Teaching

Individualized Teaching

Description of how teachers work with children who are
"behind," "excelling" or "different" from the majority of students

Chidren are lovingly instructed with individual attention as needed. Each child's level of learning is taken into account when activities are planned.

Home School Connection

Director's Comments

An individual meeting with each family/child is scheduled before admission. A group parent informational meeting is held in Sept. shortly after school begins. A monthly calendar and newsletter is provided to each family. Communication is open and friendly on a daily basis with each teacher, with special communications as needed sent in each child's folder. Learning assessments are sent home in January and May. There is a parent center with materials pertinent to early childhood education displayed in the hallway. We are affiliated with PISD to offer any special services that a child may need.

Separation

Beginning of the year separation is handled through:
- Pre-entry meetings with parents at school

Director's and Parents' Comments

Director's Comments

Children are encouraged in a loving manner to join in play. There is an area in the classroom to wave goodby to parents as they leave. Usually separation anxieties are calmed with minutes.

Discipline, Health and Safety

Overview

Director's Description of Approach Toward Discipline

Discipline is usually not a problem for us.
We have an apple tree in each classroom with each child's name on an apple. Children are warned when behavior is inappropriate and their apple is removed if misbehavior continues. Children are encouraged to solve their own disagreements with appropriate words and behavior.

Director's Response to a Sample Discipline Scenario

Description of how teachers handle the following scenario: Child A and Child B are good friends and usually play together. One day, Child A decides to play with Child C and tells Child B, 'I don't want to play with you today. I'm playing with Child C instead.'

Children would be encouraged to talk about the problem and come up witha solution where everyone could be happy--i.e, three could play together or child b could play with "a new friend".

Food Allergies

- parents provide a snack for their own child each day. We encourage that they be healthy.

Medications

- we do not administer medication at school.
