Quality of Teaching

Director's Comments on Individualized Teaching

Individualized Teaching

Description of how teachers work with children who are
"behind," "excelling" or "different" from the majority of students

It is important for children to learn through play. Brain research has shown that children make deeper connections in comfortable calming, home-like environments, surrounded by the beauty of the natural world. We know that children feel safe here with our experienced, mature staff and that the woods surrounding our center help to bring in the natural lighting and wonders around us. Children in this environment are able to focus and learn at their own pace.

Home School Connection

Director's Comments

Milestone Moments are done on children monthly as a means to track their development. Parents are able to get immediate messages as they check their child in or out throug individual or class emails. Parent newsletters are sent out once a month with calendars of events and important happenings in the classrooms.

Separation

Beginning of the year separation is handled through:
- Pre-entry meetings with parents at school
- Small group sessions

Director's and Parents' Comments

Director's Comments

Our skilled, mature staff are experts at handling separation. I believe that this skill is something that comes with time and experience.

Discipline, Health and Safety

Overview

Director's Description of Approach Toward Discipline

Discipline is always a cahllenge in a preschool setting as children are just beginning to learn self-control and to become good decision makers. Distraction, redirection, normal social consequences and conflict resolution are the proactive means used in our center for discipline.

Food Allergies

- We do not allow certain foods in the classroom

- We ask parents to provide child-safe snacks for their allergic child

Medications

- Written notice and medication kept in office under lock and key.
