School Philosophy & Day in the Life

School Philosophy and Mission

Since its inception in 1977, the Montessori School of Oak Ridge (MSOR) has been dedicated to providing a high quality Montessori program to children ages 2 to 6 years from all racial, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds. We believe that each child is unique and, therefore, capable of developing a strong sense of self during these formative years. We encourage self-discovery and promote self-directed behavior, individual growth, cooperation, and respect for others. We believe that children who are guided, rather than directed, learn to take pride in their work and come to delight in their own discoveries. At the Montessori School of Oak Ridge, we aim to lay the foundation for a lifelong love of learning and personal development.
