Peace Montessori is an amazing place--warm, respectful, kind, well-educated, helpful teachers. Our family has been involved since 2006 when our son began his Children's House years. He is now a student in the Elementary program and we are as happy and pleased as we have always been! I would absolutely recommend this school to anyone looking for a great place for their child at any age, Toddler to Upper Elementary student.
Parent #2
Our son attended Peace for one year. It was a very challenging year filled with great negativity and criticism. Our time at Peace was anything but "Peaceful." As a parent who has experienced this school, I would strongly advise to research all other available options.
Parent #3
The teacher would reprimand children and counsel parents during pick-up and in front of the other parents.

His main teacher rarely seemed happy or eager to start the day. She often sighed, put her hands on her hips and rolled her eyes. I (as an adult!) sometimes felt like I was disturbing her when I was approaching her with a question. She usually seemed like she had something more important to do. As far as the students went, she clearly had favorites. I found her very impatient, stern and unaffectionate with my son. I longed for a firm but nurturing teacher who would praise my son when it was clear he was trying. The only attention she seemed to give my son was negative attention. I never saw her patiently listening to children. Instead, she was often reprimanding them for interrupting. I don't believe I ever once in the entire year we were there ever heard her point out one of my son's strengths. Pick-up was always a chaotic free-for-all (as opposed to my son's previous preschool). In my presence, she did not resolve disputes fairly, allowing children to learn from the dispute.

I never felt like there was a parent-teacher team attitude. I always felt that I was being lectured to about what the Montessori method was (or at least their interpretation of it) and that if I didn't like the way things were handled that I was welcome to leave. There is absolutely no interest in parent satisfaction. When I turned in my letter withdrawing my son from school at the end of the school year, no one even asked why. There has never been any parent satisfaction survey that I have seen and when I asked about retention rates based on each classroom, I was told that they did not keep track of such things. Since they are not accredited by any national Montessori organization, I felt like they had no one overseeing their teaching and therefore no one to be accountable to.

There was a child with autism that scared the heck out of my son by routinely hitting, scratching, biting, kicking and pinching him. When I brought this up to the teacher, her answer was always that it is the Montessori philosophy to have children from all different backgrounds and intellectual levels in the same classroom. I am all for mainstreaming children with special needs but when they are routinely *violent* to the other children, I think that behavior should be addressed. If it can't be corrected and it is affecting the academic achievement of the other students, I think the child should be asked to leave. The matter was never even addressed.

No - when other preschools were full they still had openings. I had no problem getting in.
