Parents' Comments
Parent #1
My son went to this school for 3 years - before he went to a public school I had to bring him up to speed. Three other children who left the shcool after first grade with my son were left back in public school. The concept is great - but the running of the school is lacking. If my son did not feel like writing - he did not have to.

School Philosophy & Day in the Life

School Philosophy and Mission

"Grounded in the educational philosophy of John Dewey and in Jean Piaget’s insights into children’s cognitive development, Randolph School serves families who seek an alternative educational experience for their children. Our families come to the school because of its progressive approach, multi-age groupings, commitment to diversity, smaller class size and student-teacher ratios, support of children with certain learning differences, passion for the arts and for the natural environment, and emphasis on community. At Randolph School the teachers choose educational activities based on their knowledge of each child as well as on developmental and age-appropriate curriculums."

Parents' Comments

There were no gym or sports classes available at the time my child attended the school. The children did learn how to tap a maple tree and make maple syrup - and how to strip a chair. I do not think these are life skills that children need - it is a great thing to know but they need a well rounded education.

Although his teacher was a wonderful woman - she was not a great teacher. If my son did not feel like writing a story - he did not have to. They did not push the children and did not work with their strengths.

Randolph School has a great Idea - but to pay all that money to continue to home school my son was crazy - The only reason my son got into the second grade in public school was do to the fact that I schooled him at home. Randolph school was more of a babysitter than a learning facility.

Parents' Comments

The school is a very old building - the teachers had the preschool and first grade students stripping paint off of chairs - this is not a job for a child. They gave my son a butter Knife to cut an apple - unsupervised - a butter knife is not the proper tool to use to cut an apple.

When my son attenede the school - we could just walk in the school at any time - there was no signout - no security.

Safety of the children is a big concern with me there also.
