School Philosophy & Day in the Life
School Philosophy and Mission
The Church offers this program out of its basic belief that God is a God of love and that children should have the opportunity to experience this love through relationships with others with a positive learning environment.
Purpose
The purpose of the Pecan Street Preschool is to provide children, 2 to Pre-K, with an atmosphere of Christian love that is conducive to creative play and exploration of the child's world. It is our goal to develop an enthusiastic attitude toward learning, and we desire to help each child become aware of God's love, and in doing so, help them know what a special person he or she is through that love.
We strive to provide opportunities for each child to develop a positive self-concept, be accepting of others, be curious, be expressive, feel loved, feel secure, be full participants in God's world.
Curriculum
Pecan Street Preschool offers a curriculum that is based on the philosophy that children learn through active involvement in their environment. Learning through play is an important aspect of our program. In all classes, teachers provide activities and equipment which are developmentally appropriate and help children grow and learn at their own pace. The daily schedule consists of individual and group activities — music, outdoor play, lunch, story time, and rest time.

Director's Comments on Individualized Teaching
Parents' Comments
Parent #1
Our teacher this year clearly favored the girls over the boys and wouldn't take the time to make transition easy. She wasn't social or verbal for the whole first semester and she actually told my child to "worry about himself" when telling her a classmate hurt him.

Director's and Parents' Comments
Parents' Comments
Parent #1
My daughter's classroom would sometimes have a 'floater' teacher in it during the mornings, not specifically to deal with seperation, but just to help manage all the kids.
Parent #2
I feel like security is a big issue at our school. We are on a busy street and they don't lock the doors or keep track of who's coming and going.
