Director's Comments

i love to introduce new ideas to children and run with it. i like them to be able to move around and touch and play with their learning materials. I love to see them get involved with the the topic. for the next 12years they will be sitting at desks i like to introduce subjects such as hibernation, solor system, and the body. i can go on forever but basically being able to light up a child's face tells me they are learning

Quality of Teaching

Director's Comments on Individualized Teaching

Individualized Teaching

Description of how teachers work with children who are
"behind," "excelling" or "different" from the majority of students

at this age no child is behind or ahead. they are developing at their own pace. we allow children to participate in all activities where they will have a lot of success, or where they use their growing skills to be built on their prior knowledge. Children participate as much as they are comforable with. they are never forced to reach a milestone based on their age only on their abilities to succeed and move on. different children excell in different areas. Everyone benefis from each others knowledge. It is cooperative learning style..

Home School Connection

Director's Comments

the director is available at opening or closing to speak with parents. we are in constant communication about their child, their progress and thier behavior. each parent has directors home phone and cell phone so questions can be answered immediately. parents join students during the day for breakfast twice a year and for night time parties approximately 2-3 times a year. We work as partners in the develpment of the children

Separation

Beginning of the year separation is handled through:
- Small group sessions
- Extra staff dedicated to handle separation

Director's and Parents' Comments

Director's Comments

To prevent seperation issues a parent must feel totally comfortable with their choice for child care. A child will take their cues from the parents. if the parent is nervous and worried the child will sense this. The director makes the parent feel comfortable and at home and reassures the parent that they may call every 5 minutes after drop off.
we remind them that at drop off they should seem happy, and confident they have made the right choice. A staff member will take the child from the parent let them say their last good byes and than distract the child with activites. We ask that the parent leave quickly. A child usually calms down within 6 minutes.

Discipline, Health and Safety

Discipline

OVERALL RATING (3.8) Three and Half Stars
Parents' Opinions
Parents at this school, on average, believe that conflicts between children: are handled well in a way that gives me confidence in the safety of my child

Overview

Director's Description of Approach Toward Discipline

we try to avoid having to discipline by having enough staff, keeping the children engaged in activities and by feeding them every 2-3 hours. if there is a problem we try to refocus the children having a problem. If it is an issue of hurting eachother either physically or emotionally, we try to teach the children empathy and how to be a good friend. We encourage our children to try to handle things on thier own and to expect their friends to treat them well

Director's Response to a Sample Discipline Scenario

Description of how teachers handle the following scenario: Child A and Child B are good friends and usually play together. One day, Child A decides to play with Child C and tells Child B, 'I don't want to play with you today. I'm playing with Child C instead.'

Encourage child a to play togetherwith both b and c
Encourage child b to play with a new friend
