Quality of Teaching

Director's Comments on Individualized Teaching

Individualized Teaching

Description of how teachers work with children who are
"behind," "excelling" or "different" from the majority of students

We believe some children need a little bit more one on one time. wether it be a child who is behind or a child that is excelling and needs some challenging instruction. We have excellent child to teacher ratio that allows small if not indiviual time to work on concepts.

Home School Connection

Director's Comments

Daily notes are sent home to connect home to school relationships. We have annual get to gethers and open communication daily with parents when dropping off or picking up.

Separation

Beginning of the year separation is handled through:
- Pre-entry meetings with parents at school
- Abbreviated schedule at start of school year

Director's and Parents' Comments

Director's Comments

We reassure children with separation anxiety by being there for them through out the day, reassuring them that their parents will return to pick them up.

Discipline, Health and Safety

Overview

Director's Description of Approach Toward Discipline

We use the positive reinforcement approach. We believe in talking to children at eye level and always reminding children what the rules are.

Director's Response to a Sample Discipline Scenario

Description of how teachers handle the following scenario: Child A and Child B are good friends and usually play together. One day, Child A decides to play with Child C and tells Child B, 'I don't want to play with you today. I'm playing with Child C instead.'

We would remind the children that at this school we all are friends and that everyone should be included.

Food Allergies

- We do not allow certain foods in the classroom

- We keep special snacks for allergic children

Medications

- We keep their medication on hand at all times

- We call parents when the child needs medication
