Quality of Teaching

Director's Comments on Individualized Teaching

Individualized Teaching

Description of how teachers work with children who are
"behind," "excelling" or "different" from the majority of students

Provider works one on one with each child. Children are never shamed or punished instead they are encouraged and praised.

Home School Connection

Director's Comments

Provider has an open door policy with Parents. I have a wealth of information and am always willing to share ideas with parents. Parents get pictures daily via email or cell phone so they can see their child activities for the day.

Separation

Beginning of the year separation is handled through:
- Pre-entry meetings with parents at school

Director's and Parents' Comments

Director's Comments

Children who have seperation anxiety do better if a parent leaves a personal belonging or picture of theirs with child to care for while they are gone. Leaving a blanket with parents scent on it also helps. Encouraging child to help with activities and infants aslo can distract child.

Discipline, Health and Safety

Overview

Director's Description of Approach Toward Discipline

Positive dicipline and encouragement are used. Children are encouraged to make good choices and are never shamed. Time out is not used in my Daycare.

Director's Response to a Sample Discipline Scenario

Description of how teachers handle the following scenario: Child A and Child B are good friends and usually play together. One day, Child A decides to play with Child C and tells Child B, 'I don't want to play with you today. I'm playing with Child C instead.'

Provider would tell child b "Why don't you and I play with the blocks and see what kind of a castle we can build." Maybe child a will want to play with you a little bit later." "Child a is still your firend... He just wants to do something different now." OK?" "Dee Dee loves you!"
