Director's Comments

Question to director: Do you have any additional thoughts on what parents should consider when looking at your school? Is there any advice that you would like to provide to prospective parents?
We use a character development curriculum taught in the classroom and through sports!

School Philosophy & Day in the Life

School Philosophy and Mission

Our Philosophy
We believe all children are unique and special. We can assist parents in the development of their children, including their intellectual, physical, emotional and social character. Therefore, we have established a program to assist parents in nurturing their children so they can reach their full potential. This will be done in a loving, safe, stable environment where children will experience both group and individual activities. These activities have been planned and prepared to educate them intellectually, physically, emotionally, and socially. Through the exploration of any number of activities, they will be able to tackle the attributes that are going to be essential, not only for that specific activity, but more importantly in life. By offering after school pick-up and homework assistance, we facilitate the need for parents to have afterschool care while enhancing the childrenâ¿¿s lives through daily exposure of sports.

Discipline, Health and Safety

Overview

Director's Description of Approach Toward Discipline

Discipline is derived from the word â??discipleâ?? meaning "to teach". Therefore, at CCDA, we do not think of discipline as punishment, but rather as teaching self-control. Teachers will deal with each child in redirection. Our attention will focus on the problem and not the child. We will use redirection when problems arise and provide quiet areas where the child and teacher can discuss the behavior. If a child needs to take some time to himself or herself to regain control, they may sit away from the group for 3-10 minutes according to their age. If a problem persists, a parent conference will be scheduled. Positive words will be used to encourage positive behavior. We will encourage children to use words to express themselves.

Positive ways to handle childrenâ??s behavior:
> Redirect negative behavior to an acceptable behavior by encouraging a child to change activities or friends.
> Ignore the behavior.
> Help children understand consequences to behaviors.
> Limit choices.
> Use humor.
> Ask for assistance.
