Parents' Comments
Parent #1
Strengths: Teachers.
Weaknesses: Lack of enrichment classes (only get music- and that is only 2x/month during "school year." nothing in the summer).

Parent #2
Bright Horizons at 2nd Street has been open for a little over a year (at the time of this review), but it has been a wonderful experience for my children. The staff works hard to make this a happy place for the kids. Though it's still rough around the edges in terms of not having a strong parent community yet and the original director leaving, my kids haven't suffered and look forward to going to BH every day.

Parent #3
My son only attended 2nd Street for 6 months. He immediately bonded with his teacher, which made him very excited to attend. He learned a great deal while there - preliminary math, how to tell the date and time, etc.

Parent #4
Brand new facilities, fabulous director, teachers seem content and supported.

Parent #5
The campus is new, clean and well maintained. Corporate run, so there are standards and accountability, unlike some sketchy home-based daycares I have toured. Each classroom is tailored for different age groups, and there is a small play area outside. The teachers are incredibly nurturing and fun - the school is play based, and my child has blossomed creatively and in language skills over the past six months! Drawbacks would be the small outdoor play area and lack of playground equipment, and the campus' location between the Bay Bridge freeway onramps - makes it incredibly difficult to reach during rush hour.

Parents' Comments

Parent #1
The curriculum approach is perfect for my child. He adores circle time where the teachers read stories, lead dramatic play and singing, but he also enjoys the freedom to play and be creative at each of the different stations in the classroom. If you are looking for the traditional sit-down and learn while the teacher lectures type of school, this is not for you.

Parent #2
While there is teacher-led instruction, there are plenty of opportunties for free play. Inside the classroom, children are able to choose different areas/activities. Outside the classroom, they are also allowed free play time.

Parent #3
Music is an "enrichment" activity 2x/month during the school year, but other than that, it does not appear to be a structured activity- at least at the 2 and under age.

Director's Comments on Individualized Teaching

Parents' Comments

Parent #1
The school went through some growing pains at the start with teachers cycling in and out. The good news is that the director listened to parent concerns and all the "bad seeds", if you will, are now gone. The current teachers are now established and are fabulous!

Parent #2
My daughter is not in pre-school, just daycare at BH.

Parents' Opinions
Parents at this school, on average, believe that conflicts between children: are handled extraordinarily well in a way that not only gives me confidence in the safety of my child but also reassures me that my child (and his/her peers) are learning the early skills needed to socialize effectively with one another

Parents' Notes on Discipline, Health and Safety

Parents' Comments

Parent #1
Being new, the facilities and grounds are sparkling clean and new. I rated the outdoor play equipment as "good condition" only because there isn't really much equipment out there, ie no jungle gym like Bright Horizons in Laurel Village.

Parent #2
very small outdoor area, needs more toys/bikes/ jungle gym
