Parents' Comments
Parent #1
I can only speak from good experiences. If there is a child conflict at school the teachers address it immediately and all information is expressed to all parents of the children involved.
Parent #2
`Strengths: I feel Little Gators is a safe haven for preschoolers. They have 4 dedicated and nurturing teachers who treasure the children. While the outline of academia ( the director calls the curriculum ' paper and pencil') is hazy. The PreK kids do worksheets and helps get them into Kindergarten. It also helps the parent know their strengths and weaknesses. Another strength is easy access and communication with Director and teachers. Weakness: Overcrowded. While they have a good teacher/student ratio, 25 kids is too many for such a small space. The school needs to pay attention to boy/girl ratios. At one point there were 6 girls and 20 boys. The teachers are very upbeat and genuinely love the kids.
Parent #3
Little Gators is unique in that it is a relatively small program so can provide a warm, nurturing and supportive atmosphere for children. It is also unique in that the program, while allowing tons of time for fun and free play, does aim to teach children the basic academic skills (such as learning to write letters and numbers, identify shapes etc.) and fine motor skills that they will need before starting kindergarten.
Parent #4
Little Gators is by far the best school I have seen or heard. I could only say great things about it and in my eyes they are perfect. It's a very small and intimate school that may not be for everyone because of the size but we think it's a positive thing.
Parent #5
Strengths - information flow to parents, director's knowledge of the kids (The Director is excellent), loving but firm environment, academic focus (my kids know their abc's, write their names after 2 years of pre-school); kindergarten admission process; parent base is great Weaknesses - Parent education/development; diversity of parent body -- more neighborhood diversity
Parent #6
Strengths: Good with conflicts. They dealt well with kids when a hitting incident occurred.
Parent #7
I have four children who have gone through Little Gators. Each of them had a wonderful, loving, academically challenging experience and they are all so different. My children have fun at school. They are excited about learning and they love their teachers.
Parent #8
Strengths: Great hot lunch program. Very flexible schedules. Academic curriculum. Kids learn to deal with change and how to get along with each other. Weaknesses : Advancement to ' next level' is determined not only by readiness but also by availability of space. If space not available, child may not be challenged, despite readiness. Children move on to next level independently and separation from other friends who are left behind or moved up can be difficult on the children.
School Philosophy & Day in the Life
School Philosophy and Mission
Little Gator's goal is to provide your child with a supportive and stimulating environment which will promote his/her optimal physical, social, emotional and intellectual development. We believe the most important contribution we can make to your child's life is to help your child develop a positive self-image. The ability to feel good about one's self enables a child to retain their natural desire to learn. Children are encouraged to be themselves and show respect for their peers and teachers.
Typical Day-In-The-Life At This School
Two Year Old Program- Our goal is to introduce new concepts in learning through music, art, games, stories, cooking and other activities, while providing an environmentwhich feels safe and loving to each child.
Three Year Old Program- During this crucial period of intellectual development and strengthening of peer relationships, children are introduced to letters and numbers, social studies, science, computer, and fine and gross motor activities, in a style that shows learning is fun.
Pre-K Program- The goal is to prepare children for Kindergarten. Building on the concepts from the Three Year Old Program. An addition with more advanced worksheets, phonics, foreign language, and educational visitors, children enhance letter and number recognition and writing skills. The class is divided into small groups in order to meet the individual needs of each child based on their level of readiness for Kindergarten.

Lots and lots of love and hugs. Each child is different so we deal with each one differently.
Parents' Comments
Parent #1
Little Gators is an amazing school! They receive your children with loving, open arms. They are structured and academic...but it is all enforced with extra hugs. My children have a true and inherent love for learning. We attribute this mostly to the teachers and the teaching method at Little Gators. We can not say enough great things about our experiences there!

| Parents at this school, on average, believe that conflicts between children:
are handled extraordinarily well in a way that not only gives me confidence in the safety of my child but also reassures me that my child (and his/her peers) are learning the early skills needed to socialize effectively with one another
| |
Overview
Director's Description of Approach Toward Discipline
We talk to the child and we will give time outs. With 2 year olds we will sit with them and talk to them and go back and always make them say sorry. Older kids we will talk to.
Director's Response to a Sample Discipline Scenario
Description of how teachers handle the following scenario: Child A and Child B are good friends and usually play together. One day, Child A decides to play with Child C and tells Child B, 'I don't want to play with you today. I'm playing with Child C instead.'
At Little Gators we always play with everybody.

Advice from Parents to Prospective Parents on Admissions
Parent #1
Started early and registered prior to start date to ensure a slot.
Parent #2
Met director in person, outside of the open house process. Referred by a friend.
Parent #3
Made contact several times, really let the director know your interest level. Brought cookies!
Parent #4
Focus on the one school you're really interested in. Let the school director know how much (and why) you like the school through a mixed media approach -- friends currently enrolled, stop by, send pictures, follow-up with letters immediately after a visit.
Parent #5
Past and current parents of kids enrolled called on our behalf. I also talked with the director about our desire for entry and our feeling that it was a perfect match for our child/family.
Parent #6
I just sent in the application and I got my older children in, but that was 7 years ago and things have changed a lot in the preschool admission process in this city.
Parent #7
Get to know the Director. Let her know you really want to go to her school. She likes low maintenance parents so don't bombard her with pleas. References from other Little Gators parents help too.
Parent #8
Attended summer school there, communicated my enthusiasm for the school and its community
Parent #9
I tried to get to know Barbara. She hand picks the people who go to her school. She wants nice, down to earth, 'good' people to attend. Parents who are concerned about and involved with the children!
