School Philosophy & Day in the Life
School Philosophy and Mission
Days of Wonder Child Care Program operated by the Hudson Valley Day Care Center, Inc. is a non-profit organization governed by a volunteer Board of Directors.
The mission of the Board is threefold:
1. To provide working parents with the security that comes with knowing that they have left their child in a safe, nurturing and loving environment â?? in essence a home away from home.
2. To carefully develop an atmosphere that recognizes and encourages the social, emotional, physical and intellectual growth of each child â?? a holistic approach to child care.
3. To make the experience for every child a journey of discovery, growth, acceptance and fun by using highly qualified staff members, a variety of educationally sound teaching strategies and curriculum and life enrichment activities.
Typical Day-In-The-Life At This School
At the Days of Wonder Child Care Program, every day holds a wonderful new adventure.
There is so much to learn and to wonder at in our program, yet each child progresses at his or her own pace. Every triumph, no matter how small, is very happily celebrated.
Children wonder about people
So they get to meet the police chief-the ambulance squad-wildlife handlers for the Greenburgh Nature Center-folk singers-story tellers-and Moms and Dads who come in to share their occupations and interests.
Children wonder about their own backyard
So they grow their own garden (and eat what theyâ??ve grown!)-make sure the birds have bird seed-help care for the guinea pigs and fish-and crawl, jump, swing, and slide on their multi-sensory playground.
Children wonder about the world
So they travel to the Stepping Stones Museum in Norwalk - the fire station - the library - the Greenburgh Nature Center - the Planetarium - the Tarrytown Playhouse.
Children wonder about holidays
So they celebrate diversity. Children spin dreidels on Hanukkah-welcome Santa at Christmas-hang flags for the Fourth of July-learn about martin Luther King Day-and dress up for the Halloween parade.
