Parents' Comments
Parent #1
The staff is really attentive towards the children. My child is happy to attend school and he loves his teachers and classmates. I find that their teaching methods really work for my child has applied skills he learned at school in life (discipline, listening, sitting still, etc.).

Parent #2
my daughter was severely injured on her third day at this school. they have done nothing about it. they did not follow their schedule, did not report the accident and had basically just chaos going on.

Parent #3
Unlike other schools I tried and/or visited, we liked Balboa Preschool as soon as we walked in the door and we recognized that by and large the children seemed happy.

School Philosophy & Day in the Life

School Philosophy and Mission

Balboa Preschool education philosophy is based on the assumption that growth is a sequential and orderly process and that children do indeed pass through stages of development which occur in a predictable sequence in their physical, emotional, social and cognitive growth. The adult's responsibility in a developmental program is to assist the child in growing to his or her fullest potential by recognizing each stage of development and fashioning a curriculum that will nurture and facilitate growth during that stage.

Although there are no formal meetings regarding our child's development in school, the school has always had open informal and thoughtful communication regarding everything in the school. We have enrolled 2 children at Balboa. It is bilingual and provides many wonderful child-centered and family center experiences.

Parents' Opinions
Parents at this school, on average, believe that conflicts between children: are handled extraordinarily well in a way that not only gives me confidence in the safety of my child but also reassures me that my child (and his/her peers) are learning the early skills needed to socialize effectively with one another

Overview

Director's Description of Approach Toward Discipline

It will be explained by an adult about the action and the behavior. We will also explain why they are on a time out for their behavior.

Director's Response to a Sample Discipline Scenario

Description of how teachers handle the following scenario: Child A and Child B are good friends and usually play together. One day, Child A decides to play with Child C and tells Child B, 'I don't want to play with you today. I'm playing with Child C instead.'

If child B does not feel badly we will leave it alone. We always encourage the children to play with everyone and be friends with all.
