School Philosophy & Day in the Life

School Philosophy and Mission

"The St. Mark Early Childhood Center operates under the philosophy of “indirect learning experiences” rather than “direct teaching”. No attempt is made to teach reading or writing. Colors, shapes, letters, number concepts, etc. are presented, but by the “Caught” rather than “Taught” method. The program provides for the balanced daily plan of activities with emphasis being placed upon the overall development of physical, social, and emotional growth in a child-centered group. The children are given freedom to explore, create, and use equipment within limits: “freedom within limits” is the general philosophy.
