School Philosophy & Day in the Life

School Philosophy and Mission

We believe that children are learning all the time, through their contacts with the people and things around them, and through their own natural curiosity. Our classrooms are carefully planned environments that enable children, through interactions with objects and people, to explore, experiment and create their own understanding of the world they encounter. We place equal emphasis on emotional, intellectual, physical and social growth. Child development follows a predictable path, but with a unique timetable for each child. When children are provided with activities that are well matched to their developmental level, and have many opportunities each day to experience success, learning occurs naturally and with a positive self-image.

Savvy Source's Comments

(According to the Nazareth Parent Handbook...) Our preschool classrooms are inclusive environments for all children. The teachers provide a place where all children feel welcome and able to learn at their own pace. There are many language-based activities such as story dictation, singing, story telling, and lots of casual conversations. The teachers also bring literacy into focus by labeling the shelves and making printed materials available to children around the classroom.

Home School Connection

Savvy Source's Comments

From the Parent Handbook: Parent Involvement: We welcome your involvement in your child's program at whatever level is comfortable for you. Group parent meetings, special center events, newsletters, and individual conferences are just some of the ways you can stay involved. Formal assessments of your child's progress will be conducted regularly, and you will be invited to review these assessments with your child's teacher. Written progress reports will be provided at least every four months, more frequently for infants and children with identified special needs. You will have an opportunity to meet with your child's teacher to review your child's progress, set goals, and share any concerns you may have. In addition, staff will always be made available for individual conferences at your request. You are invited and encouraged to join in program activities at any time while your child is present. It is helpful to know in the morning if you will be visiting your child at lunch time. Group parent meetings will also be held. These meetings help the Director to monitor the quality of the program, to find creative solutions to general issues or concerns, and to plan special activities. From the Parent Handbook: Our kindergarten program is full day to accommodate the needs of working parents. We offer a variety of activities for the children to meet their learning styles. The teachers work with the parents and children to assess their needs and help them transition to elementary school. The teachers of this group get so excited (as do the children) when the children learn how to write their own names, learn their address, or tell us when they are having a birthday just by looking on the calendar.

Savvy Source's Comments

Comments

(Referral Process - according to the Parents Handbook) Parents can call the center and place their name on a waiting list. When a space is available in a classroom the family is notified and a site visit and interview are scheduled. The Program Director conducts an interview with the parent(s), with the child present. This allows the parent(s) to learn about the program and the Director to learn about the parent(s) and child. At this time information is exchanged, expectations and requirements are clarified, policies are reviewed and any special concerns are addressed. Parents are either income eligible for one of the program's OCCS slots, have a voucher or pay the private fee. All information regarding eligibility for subsidy is also reviewed at intake.

Age/Child Requirements

Child must be 2 years and 9 months to enroll.
