School Philosophy & Day in the Life

School Philosophy and Mission

Our facility is set up so that we can alter the space to meet the needs of both our preschoolers and school aged children. Our high quality staff supervises all activities and makes sure that different age groups are in separate area with peers of similar age group while being involved in fun, age appropriate activities. Our job is to create a play space with activities that enable your child to explore, use their imagination, express and develop their creative and artistic skills, while enhancing and affording them opportunities for learning.

Typical Day-In-The-Life At This School

Children are free to come in and play any time during operating hours. They are free to choose between a variety of activities or free play time. We incorporate cooking, arts and crafts, gross motor activities, sensory activities, language and literacy skills, and much, much more. All California Kids staff are highly trained with backgrounds in early childhood education, health and safety training, in addition to being CPR and First Aid Certified. California Kids staff members that work in our infant room also have specialty courses in infant and toddler care and development. We are very proud of our staff and only hire those with an impressive combination of education and experience in the early childhood field. Additionally, all California Kids staff members under go a thorough criminal background check and many are Trustline certified. You can feel confident that your child is in a quality facility with quality caregivers.

Home School Connection

Director's Comments

Separation anxiety is completely normal during all phases of children's development and our staff is very familiar with various techniques and ways of helping children cope with separation anxiety. We always get parent's feedback and ask them personally if anything works well for helping their child to feel comfortable when being dropped off. It may be a hug from a favorite teacher, or a special puzzle that they love that helps them to transition and we're determined to make drop-off times as pleasant as possible at California Kids.

Separation

Beginning of the year separation is handled through:
- Extra staff dedicated to handle separation

Discipline, Health and Safety

Overview

Director's Description of Approach Toward Discipline

Redirection is our number one way to resolve conflict or to appropriately separate children. Time outs and complete separation from the group are used as a last resort and are both used very minimally.

Food Allergies

- We do not allow certain foods in the classroom

- We keep special snacks for allergic children

- We ask parents to provide child-safe snacks for their allergic child

- We do not allow any type of peanut product in our center. Children who have allergies have special labels. Our computer keeps track of children with special allergies. Our staff is very aware of different allergies and how serious it is for the child to avoid certain foods.

Medications

- We keep their medication on hand at all times

- We have a lock box for medication and medication forms for parents to fill out at time of drop-off. Medication will be administered if necessary and always documented when given.
