Philosophy & Approach

School Philosophy

General Approach to Learning: Play-Based

From the Director:

Our school offers a balance of social and academic opportunities for each child.

Quality of Teaching

Individualized Teaching: From the Director

North Side Preschool has two teachers and parent volunteers in the classroom. Our ability to adapt the projects to meet each childs needs is a cornerstone of our program. We can offer a more challenging option to one child and then a less involved version to the next. We do not have all the children working on the same project at once, so the children do not notice that someone did a project differently.

Day in the Life

General School Mission

We believe that children need a strong foundation of good social skills and postive school experiences. We offer very individualized attention to meet the needs of all our children.

A Typical Day

A day at North Side preschool is full of fun, upbeat learning with teachers who love their jobs. Large and small group activities and some one on one teacher time are to be expected. Singing, reading art, writing, math and science are incorportaed into our daily themes. Children and parents love our school.

  • Extra staff dedicated to handle separation
  • Parents in classroom early on

Handling Separation: From the Director

Children are invited to attend a Meet The Teachers visit the week before school begins. At this visit the children will find their coat hook and mailboxes and play in the classroom. Parents stay for this visit. On the first days of school, parents are encouraged to start a routine of a big hug and kiss goodbye in the hall and send the child into the room. If a child needs to be walked or carried in, that's fine. Every year their are some tears (Mom's, too). We're experienced at helping everyone through this transition. If a parent feels it's best to stay awhile, we're fine with that. Parents know their children needs best.
