Day in the Life

General School Mission

"Port Pre-School, Inc. strives to provide a positive and supportive environment for children to grow and learn about themselves and others. Special attention is given to each child's unique personality and interests. Each child will be encouraged to grow and learn at a pace that is comfortable for them. This program promotes an understanding and appreciation of each child's individuality as well as an acceptance of others. The
program focuses on a balanced approach to learning and development, helping your child grow emotionally, cognitively, physically and socially. Port Pre-School, Inc. recognizes that both teachers and parents are an important part of the learning process. The program encourages parental involvement and cooperation between teachers and parents."

A Typical Day

"Greeting: Each child is greeted individually at the door by a teacher. Children are encouraged to interact with each other as they play with table activities and toys.
Circle Time: Children learn calendar concepts, discuss changing weather and seasons, sing songs, and repeat rhymes and finger plays.
Music and Movement: Children listen to a variety of music and move to the lyrics.
Project: Children express themselves creatively while making themed projects. Children also practice writing their names on their projects.
Snack: Children socialize and practice good manners while sharing a snack. They also demonstrate independence by pouring their own drinks and cleaning up after themselves.
Free Play: Children interact with each other, play cooperatively and exchange ideas.
Sharing: Children take turns bringing a special item to share with the class. They talk about the item while the other children are encouraged to listen and ask questions.
Story Time: Children enjoy listening to a teacher read stories. After each book, the children are encouraged to express their ideas about the book."
