"This center does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, creed, sex, sexual orientation, political persuasion, religion, national origin, or the physically challenged. We believe that all children are shining stars. Each child has a particular talent or talents that we wish to expose and develop. We also wish to encourage children to view each other as shining stars with talents to be appreciated. We incorporate a Pre-school program every morning of our day. All staff is trained in developmentally appropriate practices, using NAEYC’s reference book titled Developmentally Appropriate Practice in Early Childhood Programs, and we use this knowledge in developing a program that assists the child in learning. Although each child maintains the right to not participate in an activity, the teachers will try to provide a wide range of project and present them in such a way that the child will want to join in the fun. Each teacher will tailor their pre-school program based on the readiness skills and interests of the children in the classroom at that time. Monthly and weekly calendars will be posted detailing all pre-school activities. Our Pre-school program will focus on teaching the children how to be good friends, how to listen and share and use manners. We will also work on using words, not fighting. The number one indicator of success in children when entering school is their social skills. That is our main focus. We want your child to be excited about going to "big school". When your child leaves Shining Stars Preschool & Childcare Center, LLC we expect that they will want to go on to kindergarten and we expect that they will feel comfortable in that setting. We teach the children good hand washing and health habits. The above topics we start teaching as they enroll. As the children grow and develop the teachers may add into the Pre-school programs such topics as letter, number, shape and color recognition; name, address and phone number recognition: holidays, multi-cultural events and other topics such as, but not limited to, dinosaurs, transportation, nature, families, friends, and neighbors. Our pre-school programs will be developed by the teachers in your child’s room and reviewed by the Director. Comments and suggestions are always welcome. At Shining Stars we arrange our space around the principals highlighted in the books titled Creative Curriculum. We believe in having lots of defined free choice options for your child. It is important for your child to learn to choose activities and friends to engage in play with and how to play in the area as well as maintain the play space. These are important choice and consequence-learning opportunities, which are as important as teacher, directed activities."
