"The purpose of the EPIC Crisis Nursery is to prevent child abuse and neglect. EPIC provides a structured, nurturing environment for young children and education for their family members. This typically includes: day care, nutritious meals, clothing, blankets, unconditional love and support, referrals to other community services, and 24-hour respite care (for up to 3 days at a time, 12 times per year); full mental health assessment, day treatment where appropriate, and developmentally focused care for children. Families reach out to the Crisis Nursery for any number of reasons, from needing to attend drug or alcohol counseling, to illness and/or hospitalization; to homelessness, domestic violence, or simply overwhelming stress in parenting. These concerned parents are trying to protect their children from the potentially harmful side effects of the crisis. The EPIC Crisis Nursery gives parents the assurance that their kids are safe and being cared for while the adults address their situation.
