A Typical Day

"6:30AM - 8:30AM Center opens.
Children begin to arrive. Classical/ soothing music is played in the background. Morning snack

acked breakfast is served. Toys are available to children.
8:45AM - 9:00AM Story Time
9:00AM - 10:20AM Activity Time I: Three specific activities developed to concentrate on the weekly theme are
presented along with puzzles, table manipulatives, dramatic play, blocks, multi-sensory table, etc.
10:20AM - 10:50AM Group Time I: Child-centered participative sessions.The planned group activities vary in content and include: reading, early literacy experiences, music, movement, finger plays, discussions, webbing dramatization, and games. A simple snack is served.
10:50AM - 11:50AM Outdoor Time: Our playground is an extension of the classroom activity time. Teachers not only safely supervise the playground, they also interact with the children, initiating games and other activities, foster creativity and imagination, and spending one on one time with children. Children have the freedom to participate in activities of their own choosing.

Varieties of experiences are available:
climbing equipment • swings • bicycles • gardening • balls • blocks • sand box • toys • waterplay

Indoor materials can be taken outdoors:
easels • books • crayons • dolls • dress up clothes

Outdoor time will occasionally be eliminated due to inclement weather.

11:50AM - 12:30PM Lunch: Complete, nutritious lunch is provided Teacher sits with the children while they are eating, encouraging conversation and closeness. Children assist setting-up cots for rest time. Background music is played to sooth children. After lunch, area is cleaned-up and children have gone to the restroom, a story is read or a transition activity can take place.
12:30PM - 2:30PM Rest Time: Quiet or classical music helps the children relax. Nature and ocean sound tapes may also be played. Rest time is also an ideal time for spending a few minutes in one on one dialogue with a child. Children who do not choose to sleep are encouraged to rest quietly. Once others
are asleep, those still awake are encouraged to do something quietly on their cot (read a book, draw, puzzles).
2:30PM - 3:00PM Transition: At this time, children are gradually waking up, putting their cots away and using the restroom. A self-serve afternoon snack with juice is available.
3:00PM - 4:00PM Outdoor Time II: Similar to morning Outdoor time, building upon new ideas and experiences.
4:00PM - 4:30PM Group Time II: Similar to morning group time, extended and open to new ideas.
4:30PM - 6:00PM Activity Time II: Similar to morning Activity time, in that there is a purpose behind each activity.
Group projects & play are encouraged. Children begin to leave the center.
