Day in the Life

General School Mission

We focus on the child's individual needs to promote physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development.  Our curriculum engages children in inquiry-based learning to encourage their inquisitive minds.  Children are curious about their world and Discovery Garden Learning Center’s mission is to teach children to be lifelong learners.

A Typical Day

In our main classroom, teachers will teach the calendar, provide a read-aloud, have sharing and provide discovery learning in reading, writing and math. We have weekly thematic units that allow us to use an interdisciplinary approach to teaching. For example: When teaching a leaf unit, the student will read stories and write about leaves, sing songs, collect and examine leaves with a magnifying glass, count leave veins and points, classify leaves, create a leaf art project, and engage in the leaf sensory table. This is how we tie all the subjects into one unit. Daily children can explore and play in our eight discovery rooms that engage childrenin hands-on discovery activities in music, literacy, science, math, dramatic play and art.

Home-School Connection

Home-School Connection: From the Director

Each week we blog the weekly activities, songs and books. Parents are informed about what their child is learning to provide extensions at home.

Separation is Handled through:

  • Pre-entry meetings with parents at school
  • Small group sessions
  • Extra staff dedicated to handle separation
  • Parents in classroom early on
  • Abbreviated schedule at start of school year

Handling Separation: From the Director

We provide a transitional preschool program to fit the needs of your child's beginning preschool experience.
