Day in the Life

General School Mission

The Merit School philosophy is to provide our students with successful learning opportunities. These opportunities are designed to meet the individual needs of our students as we prepare them to be responsible citizens and valued members of our community.

A Typical Day

Our days begin with music, movement, and laughter as the children greet each other, welcome each other to school, and help each other feel that they are integral parts of this community of learners. The schedule for the day is discussed and we embark on a day filled with experiences: Handwriting Without Tears, Math Their Way, and a curriculum rich in phonics and literacy are intermingled with special classes like Rizumu (physical education), music, Spanish, and Computer Lab (for the older students) which meet once a week.

Handling Separation: From the Director

We have an Open House before school starts so that students and parents may meet the teachers as well as familiarize themselves with the classrooms.
