"Apple Tree is dedicated to the goal of providing an environment for our children that will enhance their total development. Research has long established the importance of four distinct areas of developmental growth in a young child: emotional, social, physical, and intellectual.
Our school provides an atmosphere where emotional development will flourish by nurturing each child toward an inner sense of trust and autonomy. We want all of our children to experience good feelings about themselves and their world.
We promote healthy social development by helping a young child to develop a feeling that he or she is an independent little person and yet, able to accept guidance and help from teachers and peers. Our goal in this area is to aid children in developing self-control and the ability to participate with group members in a cooperative and satisfying manner.
Physical growth is accomplished by giving proper attention to both gross motor and fine motor skills. Our program provides appropriate activities in both areas. Apple Tree’s playground has been specially designed with developmentally appropriate equipment to best enhance large muscle development, coordination, and a great imagination. Many classroom activities are also designed to promote small muscle development. Movement education enables a child to understand their own place in space and to know how their body moves and how to control movements. It also provides the opportunity for creative individual expression.
These three areas: emotional, social, and physical, combine to form strong foundation blocks that make it possible for a child to best utilize his or her intellectual capabilities. Intellectual development includes firsthand experiences in grasping appropriate concepts, which enable the child to think and reason as he or she faces the challenge of each new task. Apple Tree endorses a motivational interest center approach to learning, and we firmly believe that intelligence is measured by the number of ideas a child possesses. "
