Philosophy & Approach

Day in the Life

General School Mission

"Our philosophy at Tuckaway is to offer quality programs and superior service to our families. We strive to create a loving, caring, and nurturing environment that will help the child develop a strong, positive self-concept. We are committed to supporting the development of the whole child ñ physically, mentally, socially, and intellectually. We believe that each child is a unique individual.
We endeavor to create a community where children can live, work and play together in a friendly, happy environment where cooperation is stressed. We want children to gain new skills and form good habits and attitudes so they will be prepared for the future. By working together and supporting families, we aim to create a partnership to support the child.
In keeping with our philosophy, current theories of child development, and latest research, we have developed the following goals for our centers:

To foster the development of the whole child emotionally, socially, physically and intellectually
To provide a safe, secure, loving environment
To support and nurture all children as unique individuals
To strive to create mutual respect between parents and teachers
To offer encouragement and praise
To help children become problem solvers and develop critical thinking skills
To encourage children to have a strong sense of self respect as well as respect for others
To help children express and develop control of emotions and feelings
To promote sharing and social skills
To encourage self-expression through forms of play, such as creative arts, dramatic play, and block building
To encourage children to take care of their own personal needs and to develop healthy bodies
To provide opportunities for explorations in nature
To provide opportunities for hands-on manipulation of learning materials
To provide multiple choices for children and to aid the decision making process
To encourage a positive disposition to the arts.
