General Approach to Learning: Teacher-Led

Day in the Life

General School Mission

First Step Preschool is dedicated to the growth and development of preschool children. Our curriculum is designed to promote social development, to stimulate learning abilities, and to enhance his/her self-image.
We have been in business for more than 25 years and continue to strive to make a child's first years of learning happy and productive.

A Typical Day

A day in the life of First Step Preschool is.....FUN!
We cover all basic alphabet and number concepts, have creative playtime (inside and out), do LOTS of arts and crafts, music, and reading.
Cirlce time helps us learn the Pledge of Allegiance, talk about the calendar and weather, learn our colors and shapes, and do show-and-tell.
We are a Christian based preschool and do Bible pages that go along with our letter of the week.
And don't forget snack time! The kids love that, and we provide the snacks.
From the beginning of the day, until the end of the day, the kids are busy, busy, busy. But more importantly than that, they are loved!

Home-School Connection

Home-School Connection: From the Director

First Step Preschool holds an Open House prior to the first day of school so children can be introduced to their teachers and classmates. Parents are given newsletters to keep them informed about upcoming events and skills that we are currently working on.
Teachers welcome parents to come in or call if they have a concern about their child. Open communication is very important.
Report cards are sent home twice a year so parents may view their childs academic and social skills.

Parents Say They are Encouraged to:

  • Hold social events at the school to build community
  • Are able to visit the school anytime we want
  • Go on field trips
  • Volunteer in the classroom
  • Receive newsletters

  • Abbreviated schedule at start of school year

Handling Separation: From the Director

First Step has the "kiss, drop, and run" policy! The first day of school can be a scary time for children, especially if they have not been away from Mom and Dad much. After years of working with children, we know that the best thing for a parent to do is give them a kiss and leave. Staying longer usually upsets the child more. We give them lots of love and hugs, and most are happy and busy within a matter of minutes! For those who take a little longer, we try to get them involved in activites to take their minds off of where Mommy is.
