CommuniKids Preschool, Falls Church

510 North Washington St., Suite 400
Falls Church, VA 22046

(703) 534-2221

CommuniKids is a full immersion preschool in which all activities are carried out 100% in Spanish or French. Our goal is to have children who enter the program at 2 ½ years of age be able to do grade-level work in the target language when they enter school at five years of age. To achieve this goal, children will be in an environment designed to encourage discovery, independence, and social interaction. There will be a balance of child-initiated and teacher-facilitated activities. Activities will be developmentally appropriate and will include circle time, movement and music, art, language arts, and learning centers. The learning centers will include dramatic play, blocks and manipulatives, a reading and writing center, and sand and water play. CommuniKids Preschool is working towards earning accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).

Philosophy & Approach

School Philosophy

General Approach to Learning: Play-Based

From the Director:

At CommuniKids Preschool, our two guiding philosophies are full-immersion language learning and a play-based approach to early child-hood education. Our goal is to provide the highest quality learning experience in a nurturing and fun environment. All of our teachers are native speakers with many years of experience teaching young children. Our teaching methods and curriculum are based on the latest research and on our many years of experience.

From the Director:

The play-based philosophy of education is supported by the majority of the research in early childhood education, and by child development experts such as the National Association for the Education of Young Children ( Play and socialization are critical to the healthy growth and development of children. As children play, they learn to solve problems and to get along with others. Play also allows for teachers to present children with new and varied information about the world around them in a meaningful and age appropriate way. Therefore, while our day has definite structure, many of our activities are child-driven. Our center has designated areas for dramatic play, arts, manipulatives, and reading areas. We also devote a period of time during the day to outdoor play.

Quality of Teaching

Individualized Teaching: From the Director

At CommuniKids Preschool, we deliberately keep our class sizes small in order to provide a language-rich environment for our children, allowing them ample opportunity to communicate with their peers and teachers in their target language and promoting its acquisition in the most natural way.

Day in the Life

General School Mission

CommuniKids Preschool seeks to lay the foundation for global citizenship in each of our students. Global citizenship is fostered by explicitly working on developing the values and disposition that allow for positive relationships with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures, developing an understanding of complex global issues, and an ability to speak multiple languages at an advanced level.
