General Approach to Learning: Montessori

Day in the Life

General School Mission

"We are ardent supporters of traditonal Montessori philosophy (you can read more about Montessori here) and our staff is selected in part due to their quality training and experience with effective and meaningful Montessori programs. The faculty at The Montessori Academy consists of multi-cultural, professionally trained educators, including AMI/AMS certified, Virginia State licensed teachers. They are dedicated not only to the education of their students but to the full development of the child, seeking tirelessly to gain the interest of each child and helping to unfold their personalities. Our program is committed to standards of excellence in the quality of the curriculum, in the nature of staff interactions with students and in the overall aesthetic and social environment.
The basic goals of our program in the development of the child are:
To grow in independence.
To develop self-control and self-discipline.
To learn to get along with others--give as well as share.
To cultivate the child's natural desire to learn.
To encourage the intrinsic capacity to acquire language skills.
To develop literacy in all areas.
To provide stimuli for an intellectual, emotional and physical development.
To provide a foundation for higher levels of critical thinking through the Montessori curriculum.
To facilitate the child's social and emotional growth and development of positive feelings.
To reach and exceed the current Virginia State Standards of Learning.
