Philosophy & Approach

Day in the Life

General School Mission

"Learning is a natural process in the proper environment. At St. Mark, we try to provide a stimulating, happy Christian atmosphere in which each child can learn and develop as freely and creatively as possible. We place special emphasis on making each child feel accepted and comfortable in the school situation. Enrollment is open to children two and one-half through five years of age.
Each child is given the opportunity to:
Explore and discover his/her enlarging world in a happy, unpressured atmosphere.
Learn to get along with others.
Develop physically, emotionally, socially and intellectually.
Acquire skills and "learn to learn."
Create and communicate.
Experience joy and beauty.

A Typical Day

"A typical day at St. Mark includes a generous amount of "center time," during which a child can explore, discover, touch, create, pretend, and relate to the other children. Outdoor play is an important part of our program. Activities in which each class participates as a whole include singing, rhythms, dancing, "talk-time," dramatizations, story time, counting games, and many other art projects. There is also a midmorning snack, which is provided by the school."
