General School Mission

"The mission of the Montessori Community School of Salt Lake City is to provide a rich, individualized educational experience which guides and nurtures the natural unfolding of the whole individual and inspires a lifetime love of learning and peace.

The Montessori Community School values and seeks to nurture in children:

Development of the spirit by promoting:

Caring and compassion
Honesty and respectfulness
Independence, autonomy, and personal responsibility
Self-direction, self-discipline, and confidence
Ability to cope with changes
Curiosity and wonder for life
Academic preparedness by facilitating:

Competency in reading, writing, and mathematics
Physical development and healthful practices
Effective communication skills
Joy in learning
An understanding and appreciation for the natural world
An appreciation of the commonalities and uniqueness of people and cultures
An understanding of cycles and systems, and the interconnectedness of life
Imaginative, creative, and critical thinking
The process of abstract thought
Goal-setting and problem-solving
Appreciation of the arts
Social responsibility by encouraging:

Care for others and the environment
Positive contributions to the community
Peaceful solutions of conflict
Developing social skills and nurturing creativity is just as important at the Montessori Community School as learning the core academic subjects. In all areas, our students are encouraged to become independent and self-sufficient. This prepares them for their future endeavors and boosts their confidence levels enormously. Kindness to others becomes the more natural choice of behavior for our students from constant reinforcement of this principle in the daily operations of their classroom communities. Peace Education features prominently in our curriculum and our daily classroom and school procedures. Each classroom has an established protocol for resolving conflicts, with a deliberate emphasis on helping the students learn how to handle problems without the intercession of adults. Adult mediation is provided, but never unnecessarily.

Our programs nurture a love of learning, as well as a love of life, peace and the world around us. We strive for excellence in all that we do at Montessori Community School and, above all, we strive for HAPPY children."
