General Approach to Learning: Play-Based

Day in the Life

General School Mission

The Lord of Life Lutheran Church believes the purpose of this Christian Center is to assist the parents in the development of the whole child. The parents and caregivers are partners in providing the optimal environment in which to enhance the natural curiosity and desire to learn inherent in each child. Learning about God, self, others, and God's world around us should be the most exciting and worthwhile experience to be had. It begins at birth and should continue for a lifetime. At this center, situations are provided to help the child prepare to make the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical adjustments in life. We believe children learn best from their own experiences. In a learning center environment, caregivers will help promote self-awareness and perceptual motor skills through planned, child-directed activities in which to give the children the hands-on experiences they need for total growth and development.

A Typical Day

A child who attends our center experiences a well-rounded day. It begins with breakfast at 8:oo. We do family style dining where each child learns self-help skills. Depending on the age and skill level, each child is encouraged to help himself with a serving of each item and then he passes the item to the next child at his table. Nutritious, well-balanced meals are a must. Following breakfast, children experience a balance of activities from circle time, teacher led activities such as story time, free time in centers and free time as well as teacher led activities outdoors, one of which is gardening. Lunch is served at 11:00am. Following lunch, everyone lays down for nap time. At 2:00pm, everyone gets up and has a snack. After snack, there is free time at centers, circle time and outside play time.
