General Approach to Learning: Montessori

Day in the Life

General School Mission

"Maria Montessori believed that children learned best by doing. Through our guidance and the use of materials we focus the students learning on real life situations, challenges and problem solving situations. Dr. Montessori felt that the goal of early childhood education should be to cultivate the child's own natural desire to learn.
By providing Montessori materials in a specially prepared environment, students have their senses stimulated and are encouraged to be creative. The use of individual materials permits a child to work to his own ability in the classroom. A child may work on the same material for weeks without hindering the learning of other members in the class. More advanced children in the same class can move from one material to another to avoid boredom. By giving children the advantage of discovering things on their own, children develop self-esteem, self-confidence and a love for knowledge."
