Philosophy & Approach

Day in the Life

General School Mission

It takes a lot of awareness and research to develop an appropriate and meaningful philosophy for children. We have found that children need to know they have rights and feelings, and that they can be taught the difference between the two.
Our philosophy about sharing is a good example. We do not enforce sharing because it originates from a developmental stage, then a feeling, then an action. When a child is not coerced, manipulated or forced, he truly has a choice to make. The choice he makes will allow the child to feel empowered and successful.

A Typical Day

Breakfast
Between 6:30 and 7:45 a.m. you may bring a dry breakfast for our child, i.e. toast, bagel with cream cheese, poptart, yogurt, fruit, etc. After 7:30 a.m., we ask that you refrain from sending breakfast foods. Please, pancakes with syrup and cereal with milk are not allowable.

Lunch
Lunch is at 11:00 a.m. for Toddler House, and 11:30 a.m. for Main House. Please send lunches in a lunchkit (no paper bags, except for field trips that specify it, please), that is clearly labeled with your childâ¿¿s name. Also, please label all containers and eating utensils.

We cannot heat or refrigerate food. Consider using wide mouth thermoses for this purpose.

Weather permitting, we eat lunch outside so messy foods are not a problem. Health regulations so not allow us to send uneaten portions home. No glass containers, please.

Snacks
At 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., the children will have a snack. Please provide two snacks with your childâ¿¿s lunch. These can be fruit, veggies, crackers, pretzels, etc.
