Day in the Life

A Typical Day

Early Morning
6:30-8:00 Arrivals. Children arrive & may select puzzles, toys, books, and more on their own for free play until breakfast and clean-up are finished.
7:30-8:00 Breakfast Time. Followed by clean-up, bathroom break and hand washing. After breakfast, infants are changed and put down for morning nap. As babies wake up, they are brought in to join the group activity.
Morning Activities
8:00-8:30 Circle Time. Toddlers and Preschool children will participate together as a group. Includes preschool curriculum lessons, learning new songs and reviewing other songs we have learned, we will also go over numbers, letters, shapes, colorsthrough the use of fingerplays, feltboard stories, or puppets. Children help clean up after circle time.
8:30-9:00 Exercise Time. We will do various physical fitness activities such as dancing, leg routines, stretching, runing in place, physical games, or gymnastics.
9:00-9:15 Get ready to go outside: use the toilet, wash hands, change diapers, and so on.
9:15-10:00 Outside Time. Outside play and/or walks; weather permitting. Play ball, run, play outside games, & play with outside toys. (If weather does not permit us to go outside we will play and indoor "moving" activity.) Followed by hand-washing & bathroom break.
10:00-10:30 Morning Snack & Juice Time. Clean-up follows.
10:30-11:00 Activity/Table Time. The children will color, draw, paint, water/sand play, or make projects. Perhaps a special planned activity that goes along with the curriculum lesson that week. Children help clean up after activity.
Lunch and Rest
11:00-11:30 Free Play/Centers. Children may select & play with puzzles, toys, books, and more on their own.
11:30-12:00 TV Time Educational video time. Clean-up & calm down for lunch.
12:00-12:30 Lunch Time. Family-style lunch and conversation. Children help put food away and clean up. Hands are washed, diapers changed.
12:30-1:00 Story Time. Clean-up & prepare for nap time. A story is read to children.
1:00-3:00 Nap Time. Everyone (except, perhaps, for a baby who just woke up) has a rest period. Preschool children who can't sleep rest quietly on their mats with a quiet activity such as a book. Quiet, soothing music is played during rest period to encosurage resting. As children wake up, diapers are changed, hands are washed. Sleeping mats are put away.

Afternoon Activities
3:00-3:30 Afternoon Snack & Juice Time. Children discuss choices for afternoon activities. Clean-up follows.
3:30-4:15 Active Play. Active indoor or outdoor play for all children. A special project may be planned that goes along with the curriculum lesson for that week.
Late Afternoon/Evening
4:15-4:45 Free play. Children may select & play with table toys, blocks, crayons, read books, or build with blocks on their own. Personal clean-up follows to prepare for going home.
4:45-5:00 Circle Time. Group story time or singing (nondisruptive play for those who don't wish to participate in the group); quiet group activity.
5:00-6:00 Departures. Children go home at staggered times. Projects are assembled, diapers changed, and parent information made ready. Children color, look at books, play with table toys until their parents arrive. Events of the day and plans for the next day are discussed with children and parents as they leave.
