Other subjects taught We offer Spanish classes for our three and four year old classes.In the past we have offered sign language and music classes to our students. The decision is made each year according to what is available in our budget.

We use the A Beka Book curriculum. We offer Christian education, but we are non-denominational.

Day in the Life

General School Mission

The purpose of the White Rock United Methodist Church Discovery Center Weekday School/Parents Day Out is to serve families of the church and community by providing a program for infants through Kindergarten-age children that is developmentally appropriate, intellectually stimulating, and spiritually nurturing in a safe, supervised environment, planned and directed by caring adults who are chosen for their skill with children and their commitment to Christian education. The goal of the WRUMC Discovery Center is to encourage a happy child with a positive self-esteem.

A Typical Day

Sample Schedule for Pre-K4 Class: Readiness skills, computer, craft, centers. Pledges, days of the week. Bible story, memory verse, prayer, Bible seatwork. Bathroom break and snack. Circle Time (phonics, poetry, character development). Independent Practice (handwriting, number skills). Recess. Bathroom break and Lunch. Quiet time with book. Enrichment (science, language development). Clean-up and rewards.

Home-School Connection: From the Director

We have an open door policy and encourage parents to visit the classrooms as often as they would like. Our teachers frequently communicate with parents to make them aware of their child's progress and/or areas of concern. We also hold an Open House in the fall.

We will call the parent if the child is crying excessively or in distress. Parents are welcome to pick their child up early whenever they need to.
