General Approach to Learning: Play-Based

Day in the Life

General School Mission

St. Bernard is small, warm, and family centered. We focus on the individual child; their needs and skill levels. We are constantly researching the most current instructional strategies to improve our techniques.
Providing a loving, faith-filled learning environment is what we are all about.

A Typical Day

Students in PK-1st grade thrive in their own "wing" of the school. These teachers communicate daily about the current needs of their students as they plan their daily "Bounce Time". This time is set aside for movement of students according to their individual skill level as opposed to their current grade level. This process allows teachers to challenge and remediate students in an on-going, continually assessed process.
Students participate in art, computer, physical education, music, foreign language in addition to recess and play time.

Home-School Connection

Parents Say They are Encouraged to:

  • Hold social events at the school to build community
  • Fundraise
  • Are required to make donations ourselves
  • Are able to visit the school anytime we want
  • Go on field trips
  • Volunteer in the classroom
  • Receive newsletters

Separation is Handled through:

  • Extra staff dedicated to handle separation

Handling Separation: From the Director

Our staff is very focused on separation anxiety. We carefully monitor beginning of the year activities and work closely with parents to make sure that this time is pleasant and successful for our students.
