Philosophy & Approach

Day in the Life

General School Mission

"Our philosophy is that every child can learn and deserves the opportunity to excel. We are committed to providing a loving Christian environment where each child is encouraged to develop his or her own unique talents and abilities. An exemplary code of ethics within our faculty assures children will receive personal examples of integrity and Christian values.

Our goal is to ensure all children reach their full potential by developing a sense of responsibility, self-discipline, and integrity. We endeavor to instill spiritual living through encouraging service to others and incorporating regular worship of God in all school activities, including weekly chapel in the sanctuary that we call “God's Minutes, and a daily bible time.

Our mission is to strive to give children excellent care as they experience developmentally appropriate activities. Each child's uniqueness physically, emotionally, and academically is considered. It is our desire to create for the child a second family atmosphere and to instruct and model Christian values and behavior.

To help children view school as a positive experience from the very beginning, St. Matthew presents learning in a manner that is fun, exciting, and stimulating. We are committed to the development of a positive self-image in each child. Acceptance of self leads to respect and acceptance of others.

We are a small community school that welcomes individuals of all races, creeds, and economic backgrounds. We strive to provide a student-centered program. Teachers use a variety of teaching styles through innovative learning activities to challenge and motivate students. We strive to provide “hands-on learning experiences and encourage questions. As Preschool Director Suzy Lowry says, “We like our children to be on their feet, not in their seat!
